Vijay vs Ajith – Who is the winner?

The rate was 200 INR for first day show five years before. It’s at 2000 INR today. Seriously?? Is this expenditure worth spending? Please do not spend a lot of money in theaters for entertainment. Unknowingly, we are hurting ourselves because of this spending. Let’s see how.

We are human beings. Entertainment is part of our life. What happens when we spend too much money on entertainment? To spend on it, we must earn extra money. It becomes a chain reaction. It increases the price of everything around us. Everyone increases the price to be able to accommodate this entertainment in their own life.

Price increase in day-to-day spending - Grocery price increase, Medicine price increase, doctor fee increase, increase in bribe and what not? Where this extra money that we earn goes? To distributors, producers, Ajith, Vijay and so many such stars. What happens next? These further increase their remuneration from 100C to 120C. Producers spend 120C for the actor’s pay and another 50C for making the movie. They spend 170C total. They fix the movie ticket price at 2000 INR for the first few days. They want to take back the money before the review comes out and before people realize that it’s not worth it. You may need to think is that worth spending a lot to give them such remuneration?

On the other side, you will also lose variety and good stories. By welcoming these stars, we indirectly promote masala movies and the same kind of movies (Aracha maava thiruppi arraikum padangal) – one hero, one heroine, one villain and 5 songs. The giant producers & distributors will thrive, and it will not be a level playing field for other small budget movies and small-scale producers/distributors.

Let’s take Red Giant for example. They have power and money, and they are simply doing monopoly in Tamil cinema today. Is Udhayanidhi a politician or an actor or a producer or a distributor? If he’s a good politician, I respect him. If he’s a good actor/producer/distributor, I can clap for him.

Let’s decrease the demand by not going to theaters in the first few weeks of release. What will happen? The stars will get less paid. The movie ticket price will come down. Popcorn & Ice cream price will come down. It will become affordable for everyone. No pressure for a middle class to earn extra money to spend on such entertainment.

Conclusion:

1.      Do not idolize cinema stars. Do not get confused with Politics and Cinema. They are entirely different. Just see them as mere actors who entertain you for couple of hours. If you really like them, just clap for them, and get out of the theater.

2.      Do not pour milk on cut-outs and waste resources.

3.      Do not get extremely excited and fight for them. Just be yourself. Do not lose your life out of over excitement. Your life is more worth than this worthless excitement.

Tell me now, who is the winner. Everyone wins but we the poor people are the ultimate losers!
